One of the greatest gifts God gave to Adam is language. Language, both verbal and non-verbal, is the means by which we can communicate with one other. It is the tool which bridges the gap between our mind and the mind of others. The building-blocks of language are words. But for words to have a usefulness they must have a meaning understood by both parties. Many times persons have been at cross-purpose because words used were either unclear or misunderstood. So to effectively bridge the gap both parties must communicate in a common language. Now how does that apply to the Word of God?
God has created us and it is apparent that He wishes for us to know things about Him, His plans and His workings. Unless He communicates with us we can never know the truth of Him or the things about Him. He had to reveal Himself. We learn from Hebrews 1:1 that God at various times spoke to men by visions, dreams and direct inspiration. But, today and in the Old Testament era God has spoken, his words recorded by infallible inspiration. The languages of inspiration are the Hebrew and Greek. Few of us know these languages. So it is absolutely vital that we study. What is it we are to study—Words! We learn through words. God teaches through words. To resort to mysticism, the revealing of truths by Spiritism, without studying the Word of God is the sure road to disaster. Can the Holy Spirit communicate directly? Yes, He can. But why should He when He has given us His inspired word? Study — Study — Study
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Tim. 2:15 KJV)
